Why using a bronzing powder?
Bronzing powder adds a touch of warmth to your skin and brightens your complexion. It’s also perfect for giving your features some definition and extending your summer tan throughout the year.
What’s the best bronzing powder for your face?
With all the types of bronzing powder available, it can be tricky to find the right one for you. Here are two questions to guide your choice.
What shade works best with your complexion?
It’s generally best to choose a shade one or two tones darker than your natural complexion.
- Rosy beiges, golds, and sand or honey tones are well suited for fair skin.
- Shades of brown, chocolate, and chestnut, as well as intense copper hues, are perfect for darker skin.
Do you prefer a matte or shimmery look?
The answer depends on the look you’re going for and your skin type.
- Matte powder has a natural effect that enhances your tan without creating any lines. It’s a good choice for fair skin and for everyday makeup. It also helps to reduce the oily effect of sebum or sweat.
Shimmering powder has a silky texture, perfect for adding radiance to an existing tan or for enhancing your glow during a special event. Be careful, though: this texture can make oily skin appear even shinier and accentuate wrinkles.

How to apply bronzing powder?
First, remember these three golden rules:
- Apply your bronzing powder at the end of your makeup routine, after foundation and concealer.
- Always tap your brush on the back of your hand to remove excess powder before you apply it.
- Make sure the brush lightly grazes your skin: you don’t want to be too heavy-handed.
Where to apply bronzing powder?
Focus on the prominent areas of your face that naturally catch the sun: the tops of your cheekbones, forehead, chin, and bridge of your nose.
There are two main ways to apply bronzing powder:
- Draw a number 3 with your brush on the sides of your face: go from the outer forehead to the temple, highlight the cheekbones, then go back to sweep along the jawline.
- Draw a half-moon from the cheekbone to the temple and upper forehead using light back-and-forth movements.
You can also add a touch of powder to your neck and décolleté to reduce the contrast with your face.
What brush should you use for bronzing powder?
Choose a dense, round brush to achieve an even effect that lightly covers targeted areas.
