THE JEAN COUTU GROUP ANNOUNCES NORMAL COURSE ISSUER BID

Longueuil, Quebec, May 2, 2011 – The Jean Coutu Group (PJC) Inc. (“The Jean Coutu Group” or the “Corporation”) (TSX: PJC.A) announced today acceptance by the Toronto Stock Exchange of notice of the Corporation’s intention to purchase from time to time through the facilities of the Toronto Stock Exchange and in accordance with its requirements, if it is considered advisable, up to 10,400,000 of its outstanding Class “A” subordinate voting shares (the “Class “A” shares”), its only class of shares publicly traded, subject to a daily repurchase restriction of 69,953 Class “A” shares. This number represents approximately 10% of the outstanding current public float. As of April 27, 2011, 115,120,298 Class “A” shares were issued and outstanding, 104,333,328 of which shares were held by the public. The purchase of the Class “A” shares may be made pursuant to this notice in the 12-month period commencing May 4, 2011 and ending May 3, 2012. All Class “A” shares of The Jean Coutu Group purchased pursuant to this notice will be cancelled by the Corporation.

The Corporation has determined that the purchase of its Class “A” shares will allow it to continue optimizing its capital structure and creating long-term value for shareholders.

During the last 12 months, the redemption of 6 819 900 Class “A” shares has been completed by the Corporation through the facilities of the Toronto Stock Exchange and in accordance with its requirements, at an average price of $9.23 per share and for a total amount of $63 million. All the redeemed shares have been cancelled.
