What causes water retention?

Some factors contribute to water retention:

  • Premenstrual syndrome
  • Pregnancy

  • A salt-heavy diet

How to combat water retention

There are many ways to combat water retention:

  • Drink a lot of water (at least 2 litres per day)
  • Reduce your salt consumption
  • Exercise at least three times a week
  • Try not to cross your legs too often
  • Put a pillow under your legs at night to keep them elevated
  • Apply a cream or gel that stimulates blood circulation before going to bed
