How does a man’s epidermis differ from a woman’s? Because of testosterone, men’s skin is structured differently. And even though everyone has their own skin type, a man’s skin is generally:
- Thicker. It contains more collagen.
- Oilier. Because men have more sebaceous glands, their skin secretes more sebum. It is therefore oilier, shinier and prone to acne.
- Prone to aging differently. The signs of aging appear later, but then progress quickly.
So gentlemen, DO NOT USE your girlfriend’s lotions! Get products that are adapted to your skin and specifically designed for men.
1
Oily skins or skins that are prone to acne
Oily skin has dilated pores, an uneven texture and is shiny. Because its texture is caused by excess sebum, this kind of epidermis is also prone to blackheads and pimples. Pollution, stress, tobacco and variations in climate are only a few of the factors that can stimulate sebum production.
Note: moisturizing your skin is essential, even if it is oily or prone to acne. On a clean face, apply a product with a very light texture that will absorb excess sebum and rebalance your skin.
2
Dry skin
Dry skin does not produce enough sebum. Generally, dry skins can have imperfections (red spots, peeling, etc.) and can cause itchiness or an unpleasant feeling of tightness.
3
Normal skin
Neither too oily nor too dry, this is the skin type we all dream of having! However, just because it is soft, even and without imperfections doesn’t mean that normal skin doesn’t need specific care. To preserve its health and balance, moisturize your skin every day with the right cream.
4
Combination skin
This is a mix of dry and oily skin. The epidermis is dry where there are fewer sebaceous glands and oilier in the T-Zone (forehead, nose, chin). These two extremes can make choosing the right cream tricky. Thankfully, many companies now offer products that both moisturize and control sebum production.
5
Sensitive skin
All skins can be sensitive, whether they are dry, oily or combination. Sensitive skin can feel tight, burn or tingle throughout the day. Many factors can cause sensitive skins to react, such as wind, heat, stress, certain foods, etc. To soothe your epidermis, choose products specifically designed for sensitive skin, that is to say ones that are fragrance-free and hypoallergenic.
