What do to about lash loss

Why are you losing your eyelashes? And what can be done to prevent it? Here's some useful information and potential tips to help you.

What causes eyelash loss?

To better understand the causes of eyelash loss, we have to understand the role these tiny hairs play in our lives. It’s to protect your eyes from external irritants and harm, such as sweat, dust and rain.

Like your hair, eyelashes fall out continuously then grow back and renew themselves. The average lifespan of an eyelash is three to five months. But there are a number of factors and bad habits that can affect their growth and cause them to fall out prematurely.

Loss of eyelashes is primarily caused by:

  • Stress;
  • Aggressive makeup removal;
  • Dietary deficiencies;
  • Frequent rubbing of the eyes;
  • Hormonal changes;
  • Reactions to makeup;
  • Improper use of a lash curler.

How to prevent eyelash loss...

  • Reduce stress as much as possible by meditating, exercising or doing something else that will relax you and change your mood.
  • Avoid touching, rubbing or pulling on your eyelashes (many people do this unconsciously!) The more you rub your eyes, the more likely it is that your eyelashes will become damaged and fall out.
  • Stop using cosmetics immediately if you think you might be allergic to them and avoid applying makeup to your lashes for a while so they have time to recover.
  • Remove your makeup gently every evening by soaking a cotton ball in mild makeup remover and leaving it on your eyes for about ten seconds. Then apply gentle pressure to the cotton ball and gently slide it towards the outer corners of your eyes. Above all, never remove your mascara by rubbing your eyes!
  • Avoid wearing waterproof mascara on a daily basis. Waterproof mascara requires more intense cleansing, which can weaken your eyelashes with prolonged use. Instead, alternate between basic mascara and waterproof mascara to give your lashes a rest and help prevent loss.
  • Add vitamins A, B and E and omega-3 fatty acids to your diet to promote healthy hair and lashes.
  • Moisturize your eyelashes to strengthen them and encourage regrowth, just like you would with your skin or nails. There are products designed specifically for this purpose.

Strengthen and stimulate lash growth with specialized products

There are a number of serums out there that act just like hair-care products to add volume and stimulate lash growth. These specialized products provide all the nutrients needed to stimulate eyelash fibres, boost their strength and repair any damage caused by bad habits. The result? Your lashes will be revitalized, promoting growth and extending their lifespan.
