Special time just for you, getting ready for a special event, dealing with the change of seasons: they’re all good reasons to pamper your body! Here are some easy habits to adopt.
Habit 1: exfoliate gently
Changes in outdoor temperature, the shift from heating to air conditioning, friction of clothing… so many things can dry your skin! Want a good way to start a moisturizing cure? Try body exfoliation. Skin that’s freed from dead cells and impurities will better absorb nourishing care, and remain bright, strong and firm.
Two or three times a week, apply an exfoliating formula with an emphasis on the rough parts–usually, your elbows and knees. Using small, circular motions, be sure not to rub too vigorously. You want a slight bit of friction but nothing too abrasive!
Habit 2: lasting hydration
Well-quenched skin remains supple and elastic, so be sure to give it all the moisture it needs. It’s not enough to apply cream in the mornings and at night, you need to use a soap-free product in the shower and a dry oil immediately after you turn off the tap.
If you have a bit more time, once the oil is well absorbed, turn on the shower again and spend a few minutes under cool water: the low temperature will tighten your pores and increase the firmness of your skin.
Habit 3: Reduce the appearance of cellulite
Do you have a little cellulite you want to get rid of? Use a specially formulated cream to minimize its appearance (look for ingredients like coffee extract, lotus or quince leaf on the label). To boost its effectiveness, give yourself a "self-massage" that stimulates blood circulation and unclogs tissues. It’s also a good way to reduce water retention and stimulate fat removal.
Try using the palpate-and-roll method: spread the product on your skin by rolling your skin between your fingers, as if kneading dough, starting from your ankles and moving up to your belly.
Habit 4: Heal your skin
If your legs and arms haven’t seen the light of day for months, and you find your skin is looking a little too pale, give yourself a healthy glow with a bit of bottled sunshine (it will also help hide small imperfections). The days of orange skin are over: self-tanners can give you a very natural-looking and flattering tan without the risk of UV exposure! It’s important to choose a formula that suits your skin tone. If you’re not sure what you need, test it on a part of your body that’s easily hidden.
Are you worried about having an uneven result? Be sure to wax and exfoliate your skin carefully before applying the self-tanner, and add a good layer of moisturizer afterward. To spread the pigment during application, use a kabuki brush on your hands and feet (between your fingers and toes, in particular), and a wet cloth on your joints. Above all, don’t forget to wash your hands once you’re done!
